Why the heck does anyone still live in Gotham City, Metropolis, or any other major comic city constantly plagued by super villains and with super heroes running amok?
Who are these people? These people must have just moved from Liberty City from Grand Theft Auto IV or Pacific City from Crackdown. Seriously, how else could you explain these people thinking they live in a nice place? The economy might be down but really… after rebuilding your watch repair store for the thousandth time you might think about moving to a new city.
Or after 1 out of every 10 of the kids in your class has been killed or had someone they know killed by the Joker you would think they would ask their parents — assuming they weren’t the ones killed — to move, or at least go to a different city for college, or something.
I mean, how do these people just get up and go to the bank without a care in the world? Whenever terror does break lose you always see the fear and utter surprise in their eyes. Seriously?!? Do they read the Daily Planet, or the Gotham Daily Whatever? I know the comics are not written like episodes of 24, but seriously, pretty much every single week a major villain is killing people, blowing something up, or both. Every…single…week. Yet each time it happens these people act all surprised. Stop already, just freaking stop! (more…)

The big stories coming out of Comic-Con’s panel for Warner Bros’ Green Lantern may have missed the point – including my own write-up of the event. Instead, Geoff Johns’ frustration may have been the big story everyone missed.
Or maybe I’m just imagining things.
To be sure, many media outlets reported on the audience Q&A, during which the current DCU overlord was asked whether a more unified DCU would ever be seen at the multiplexes and whether fans would ever see a JLA movie – both essentially the same question. Other fans wondered if we would see other classic Green Lantern characters onscreen, such as Alan Scott or Kyle Rayner.
Johns offered the same answer to virtually all of these questions – something approximating, “Nothing’s impossible.”

Comic Con went down last week. So to celebrate all things popular arts and all things Comic-Con itself, this post is going to consist of a transcript of my favorite interactions with A-list celebrities at Comic-Con in years past and at this year’s Preview Night that never actually happened, but happened in my head, or were just made up by me right now as I typed this.
Enjoy.
2007:
ME: Kristen, Kristen, hi, it is me Christian Spicer. Remember that one scene in Spider-Man where you kissed Tobey Maguire while he was hanging upside down?
KRISTEN DUNST: Hi Christian, how are you? Yes, I remember that scene.
ME: Some critics said that scene would have been better if we were the ones kissing, even though it might not have made sense in the movie, seeing as how I wasn’t playing Spider-Man in the film. Do you agree?
KRISTEN DUNST: Well, I kind of see the point, but I’m not sure if…
ME: Hypothetically speaking, if you weren’t married…
KRISTEN DUNST: I am not married.
ME: Right, so hypothetically speaking, if you weren’t married, would you marry me…if I were dressed in a Batman costume?
KRISTEN DUNST: That makes almost no sense at all. But because it does make a little sense, yes, hypothetically speaking, yes.

Those are the kinds of questions that the brainy creators behind IDW’s new limited comic series Kill Shakespeare like to ask. More to the point, both Anthony Del Col and Conor McCreery enjoy posing questions that lead to dream match-ups and meet-ups among the most famous characters from Shakespeare’s venerable pantheon, all of which unfolds in a fantastical Elizabethan dreamworld that’s equal parts Sunnydale High and the Globe Theater
Comic-book fans in Los Angeles should note that both creators are visiting Hollywood’s legendary Meltdown Comics tonight from 6-8 p.m. Meltdown is located at 7522 Sunset Blvd. Their phone number is (323) 851-7223.

We’ve got more round-up news from San Diego, including a peek at Chris Evans in costume as Captain America.
• I heard that Blue Beetle and Booster Gold are both confirmed for Smallville season 10, though I don’t have confirmation.
• Latino Review has a new trailer for the Paul Bettany vampire adventure Priest.
• Man. DC Universe Online unveiled a trailer for a new game (or something) that follows the DC characters as – of all people – Lex Luthor travels back in time to save the day. It looks stunning.

Comics on Comics’ very own Sax Carr has been working tirelessly to promote actress Allison Scagliotti (Warehouse 13) for the role of Cassie Hack in a film adaptation of the Tim Seeley comic book, Hack/Slash.
Carr finally connected with the ultra-talented Sagliotti at Comic-Con, where he presented her with the an Allison Scagliotti for Cassie Hack T-shirt (designed by yours truly from incredible original artwork by current Hack/Slash artist Daniel Leister.

As Comic-Con 2010 winds down, we mopping up over here at Comics on Comics. We’ve got updates on a slew of projects, including Cowboys and Aliens.
Jon Favreau slammed together some footage from the upcoming Cowboys and Aliens, and he released an image of Daniel Craig doing his best Tony Stark impression in the old west.

I’m happy to see that Ryan Reynolds knows the Green Lantern oath by heart.
The star of Warner Bros’ upcoming sci-fi epic recited the oath for a youngster who asked an audience question, then later suggested that a raffle prize (his GL ring prop) be awarded to the boy if no one claimed it. (Someone did. Shucks!)
But what about the footage?

Bear McCreary of Battlestar Galactica and actor Michael Rooker have joined the Walking Dead team. Both announcements were made during a rollicking discussion kicked off by a gaggle of staggering zombies that prowled the floor before the packed panel for AMC’s new series The Walking Dead.
Showrunner Frank Darabont of Shawshank Redemption fame said that the original comic book of The Walking Dead caught his attention immediately, and he snatched the book right off the shelf.
“It was the venue I had been looking for to do zombies,” he said, later adding that the show will go in its own directions. He described it as a show filled with “interesting detours,” and he added that comic writer Robert Kirkman encouraged and endorsed the additions.
“I want the comic and the show to exist separately on their own terms and be filled with surprises,” Kirkman said. (more…)
