G4’s Attack of the Show aired a segment tonight on Comics on Comics which was filmed during the taping of our seventeenth episode. So, we want to welcome AOTS viewers who may be visiting for the first time! Here’s a quick rundown of what CoC is about:
Comics on Comics is a live show/WebTV series recorded in Los Angeles, where we bring together professional comedians, media pundits, celebrities and comic book creators in a round-table discussion of the latest news in comics, film and TV. Basically, it’s Real Time for Bill Maher for the geek set. We are currently in production of our second season.

In this special Comics on Comics creator interview, comedian Tom Franck (Comics and Comics) talks to New York Times best-selling author, Brad Meltzer (The Tenth Justice, Identity Crisis, Justice League of America) about the origins of his latest novel, The Book of Lies, including the genesis of the Cain & Abel connection, the secret history of Jerry Siegel; which led to the creation of Superman. Additionally, Meltzer speaks out about his quest to save the Siegel house and how he got his first break in comics with DC Comics’ Green Arrow.

A look back through the six modern-era Batman movies yields some unexpected results, including the revelations that Batman Forever isn't as bad as I remember, that The Dark Knight isn't as good as I remember, and that Batman & Robin is good for one thing: reminding me how much I like the 1960s TV series. Advance Review: Jeff Parker & Steve Lieber’s Underground #1 Coming in September from Image is a new five issue mini-series from the team of Jeff Parker and Steve Lieber, the first issue of which I've had the privilege of experiencing a bit early. What I found in Underground was a breed of adventure comic that I did not expect, set in a very real world with characters you are very likely surrounded by day after day. Thus far, the story follows everyday Jane park ranger Wesley Fischer on her quest to prevent the Stillwater Cave in her community from becoming a tourist attraction, putting the entire ecosystem of the cave at risk. Her opposition comes in the form of what seems to be the entire town, as they urge the shady Mayor Barefoot to open the gates for an economic push. While it doesn't sound like the most high octane adventure on the shelves, the steady pace of Underground #1 is laced with a surreal sense of forboding that will lure readers right in. |
The Simple Design of Jeff Smith’s Bone: Fone Bone For Christmas, I received the one-volume edition of Jeff Smith's comedy-fantasy epic comic Bone. In the last couple of weeks, the Finnish girl and I have been taking turns in reading through the 1,000+ page long tale. She'd read some of it before, being from a country that celebrates comic art and graphic fiction (including, well, Bone itself). I was a newbie, having only read about it online.

Arcade of Cruelty: The Masturbatory Ego Stroking of Joseph Patrick Larkin Joseph Patrick Larkin is not a well liked human being. He even chronicles the continual bashings he bears throughout the blogosphere on the website for Also-Ran , his self-publishing company, stemming from an abusive comment on a negative review that his book received. Arcade of Cruelty is, without a doubt, one of the most self depricating, self absorbed, and politically incorrect pieces of filth that I have ever laid my eyes upon. However, it is for these same reasons, that I found most of its 260+ pages truly entertaining.
